Dinner With Kitaro December 9, 2025 I always look forward to having a fun and wise meal with Kitaro-san whenever he comes to Singapore – whether for concert performances or on private visits. 6 December 2025, Saturday, was a special celebratory dinner with Kitaro, his beautiful wife, Franci and their long-time friends from Japan. Kitaro was in Singapore on a private visit. Even a legendary music icon need a break from performing for his worldwide fans. It’s always great to have deep conversations with Kitaro on his latest adventures in music, photography, camping, aging well and happily, and on life in general. That’s what true friendship is about. Read my blog, “Lunch With Kitaro”. This is a blog about true friendship. Kitaro and his friends always make it a point to travel to somewhere fun at the end of every year. This year, it’s in Singapore. Their wives are all December Babies. I am indeed honoured that they included me in their busy schedule of festivities. I hosted a scrumptious fine-dine steak dinner for Kitaro and friends at the Tanglin Club. I met new and fun friends that night – Kimiko & Teruhumi Yamaguchi and Miyuki & Akinori Tsuji. In my humble opinion, the Tavern at Tanglin Club serves the best tenderloin steaks in town, it melts in your mouth. Laughter helps with its digestion. Model 3D Fortu Kościuszko po rewitalizacji Bastionów I–III 2026-01-08 Na zlecenie Zarządu Budynków Komunalnych w Krakowie powstał model 3D Bastionów I_III Fortu nr 2 „Kościuszko”, który przedstawia aktualny stan Bastionów I-III po zakończonej rewitalizacji. Model wykonał: Kraków 3D Obiekt, będący częścią Twierdzy Kraków, został udokumentowany cyfrowo, aby pokazać efekty wieloletnich prac prowadzonych na zlecenie ZBK. Model pozwala zobaczyć układ bastionów, kaponier i hangarów oraz nową organizację przestrzeni parkowej u podnóża Kopca Kościuszki, jednego z symboli miasta. Historia bastionów i zakres rewitalizacji Bastiony I-III Fortu nr 2 Kościuszko przez dziesięciolecia pozostawały zaniedbane i niedostępne. Ich struktury uległy zniszczeniu po II wojnie światowej. Kaponiery zostały częściowo wysadzone przez wycofujące się wojska niemieckie w styczniu 1945 r., a później rozpoczęto planową rozbiórkę bastionów, odzyskując cegłę do innych inwestycji. Celem projektu zrealizowanego przez Zarząd Budynków Komunalnych w Krakowie, pod nadzorem Miejskiego Konserwatora Zabytków było przywrócenie wartości zdegradowanych po II wojnie światowej obiektów poprzez przekształcenie ich w ogólnodostępne tereny rekreacyjno-wypoczynkowe o charakterze parkowym. Inwestycja nie zakładała pełnej odbudowy bastionów, zrekonstruowano jedynie wybrane fragmenty, takie jak pomieszczenie studni oraz skazamatowany prawy bark Bastionu II. W trakcie prac odkryto i zabezpieczono relikty historycznych fortyfikacji, w tym kaponiery, hangary, poterny i fragmenty murów bastionów, jednocześnie uczytelniając je w terenie poprzez odpowiednie oznaczenia i prace konserwatorskie. Dzięki temu uporządkowano teren u podnóża Kopca Kościuszki, jednego z symboli Krakowa, odwiedzanego przez mieszkańców i turystów, który znajduje się w obrębie obszaru wpisanego na listę Pomników Historii Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej. Nowa przestrzeń rekreacyjna i funkcje bastionów Zadbano o funkcjonalność przestrzeni. Powstały ścieżki zapewniające łatwy dostęp i komunikację w obrębie bastionów, zamontowano elementy małej architektury, takie jak ławki, kosze na śmieci, tablice informacyjne, stojaki na rowery, a także oświetlenie parkowe i iluminację. Zrealizowano nasadzenia roślin dobranych pod kątem wartości przyrodniczych i historycznych. Dodatkowo zainstalowano system do gromadzenia i wykorzystania wody deszczowej dla celów pielęgnacji zieleni. Teren parku wyposażono w ścieżki dydaktyczne poświęcone historii fortyfikacji i zieleni fortecznej. Projekt przewidział również stworzenie przestrzeni o charakterze amfiteatralnym, umożliwiającej organizację wydarzeń kulturalnych: koncertów, pokazów kinowych, spektakli światło-dźwięk oraz wykorzystanie hangarów i kaponier do wystaw plenerowych. Dzięki temu zrewitalizowana przestrzeń pełni funkcje rekreacyjne, edukacyjne i kulturalne, sprzyjając integracji społecznej oraz aktywizacji mieszkańców. Realizacja inwestycji jest przykładem nowoczesnych działań rewitalizacyjnych, które przywracają zdegradowane obszary miejskie do życia, czyniąc je atrakcyjnymi i bezpiecznymi dla mieszkańców oraz turystów. Bastiony I-III Fortu Kościuszko to przestrzeń żywa, łącząca dziedzictwo miasta z nowoczesnym wykorzystaniem przestrzeni publicznej. Narzędzie edukacyjne i informacyjne Cyfrowy model 3D jest nie tylko dokumentacją obiektu, ale także narzędziem edukacyjnym i informacyjnym. Ważną funkcją modelu trójwymiarowego jest umożliwienie odbiorcy dostrzeżenie detali fortyfikacji i lepsze zrozumienie przestrzennych relacji między poszczególnymi elementami obiektu. To narzędzie pozwala też spojrzeć na fort jako całość. Zarówno w kontekście jego historycznej funkcji, jak i współczesnego charakteru miejsca rekreacyjnego i edukacyjnego. Doceniona inwestycja Rewitalizacja Fortu nr 2 „Kościuszko” została szeroko doceniona - otrzymała główną nagrodę w 29. edycji Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu „Modernizacja Roku & Budowa XXI w.” oraz nagrodę w konkursie Top Inwestycje Komunalne 2025. Obiekt został również wyróżniony w 18. edycji konkursu „Kraków bez barier” za udostępnienie przestrzeni osobom z niepełnosprawnościami. Prace finansowane były ze środków Społecznego Komitetu Odnowy Zabytków Krakowa, Regionalnego Programu Operacyjnego Województwa Małopolskiego oraz własnych środków miasta, a ich łączny koszt wyniósł niespełna 35 mln zł. Andreas Vollenweider - Treasures of the Archives – Passage to Promise 🎵Treasures of the Archives – Part 13: Memories of ✨“Passage to Promise“ | Montreux Jazz Festival 2011✨ "A special song with a special story, performed by Andreas Vollenweider & Friends and three friends from South Africa: Vuyo Tsuma, Vuzi Nlapo, and Loyso Mapamela. It was part of the anniversary concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2011 In 1992, the album Book of Roses was created. As usual, I used the early morning hours to let new music emerge. This has always been my preferred state for creative work, somewhere between dreaming and waking. Playing freely, a music suddenly appeared that strongly reminded me of South Africa. And with surprising clarity, I thought of the people there and the difficult times that they are going through. It was already becoming clear that the days of apartheid were numbered, but the regime was resisting its end with even greater brutality. The reports were shocking, and the hope was high that change would come soon. But there was also the fear that such a change might be accompanied by terrible bloodshed. While playing the harp, I reflected on what it might take to prevent this bloodshed. The Black population, who had built up an understandable anger over decades, would need to promise one another that they would - under all circumstances - strive for a non-violent transition. But it would have to be a special kind of promise—like the kind one makes to a child. Promises made to a child MUST be kept, no matter what. And so a song emerged, still without a title, but I knew that I wanted to invite the vocal group Ladysmith Mombasa to the studio for it. So I made a demo and wrote down my thoughts so that the group around Joseph Shabalala could create the lyrics. I put the demo cassette and the note with the song idea into an envelope that I planned to send with a courier to South Africa. But suddenly I realized that the music actually already should contain my thoughts, and that the note wasn’t needed. So I took it out again and sent only the music with a greeting. A few weeks later, we all met in the studio in Switzerland. It all naturally came together very fast. After just 2–3 takes, we were satisfied and listened to the music in the control room. The group was, of course, singing in the Zulu language. So I asked Joseph about the meaning of the words… I think you know what’s coming: the words reflected my thoughts—more accurate than my note could have ever been—and the name of the song was ‚Passage to Promise‘. My birthday present was this fantastic band, offering all the tonal colours and dynamic nuances that make up this music — a true cornucopia. In our musical concept, Stella is a typical foundation for many free moments of improvisation and interplay. As is so often the case in this music, we orient ourselves toward anchor points, only to immediately free ourselves from them again before meeting at the next anchor point, and so on. This requires highly nuanced internal communication, but only a small part of it happens through listening — that would be far too slow. Chariots of Fire stage production to go on UK tour featuring music by Vangelis Last November, Bill Kenwright Ltd announced that a new production of "Chariots of Fire", the stage adaptation by Mike Bartlett, will embark on its first UK national tour in autumn 2026, with Roxana Silbert directing the new production. Based on the true story of British athletes Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams and inspired by the multi-Oscar and BAFTA award-winning film, "Chariots of Fire" brings to the stage a powerful account of conviction, ambition, and sacrifice set against the backdrop of the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. The production features the iconic music of Vangelis, drawing on themes from the original film score, alongside additional music composed by Vangelis specifically for the stage adaptation, first created for the original 2012 theatrical production. Currently, three venues are scheduled to present the production, with additional cities expected to be added.
