Andreas Vollenweider - Treasures of the Archives – Song of Isolde 🎵Treasures of the Archives – Part 18: Memories of ✨“Song of Isolde“ | Montreux Jazz Festival, 2011✨ „For the first time, the album ‚Eolian Minstrel‘ included many songs with vocals and lyrics. The musical collaboration with the American singer-songwriter Eliza Gilkyson was incredibly fluid and natural. This time, the band had a ‚rock-flavor‘ to it, that provided a great foundation for the songs and was able to do justice to the sometimes mildly confrontational lyrics, which was somewhat unusual for AVAF. In a historical context, however, I also felt this was important to share. ‚Song of Isolde‘ draws on a Celtic British saga, which tells of Isolde and Tristan, who were forced to flee into the forests to escape society because their love was forbidden. After some time, however, Isolde realized that they had to confront the fight against their oppressors. The same was true at our birthday concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2011. Even though the song still carries this loving power, this particular recording also makes us very sad. That special evening is one of the last moments of making music together. Daniel passed away after a serious illness on October 7, 2017.
