Andreas Vollenweider & Friends hat ein eigenes Instrument geschaffen, einen eigenen Stil, ein unverkennbares musikalisches Vokabular, darüber ist sich die Musikwelt einig.

 

Zusammen mit dem Schlagzeuger Walter Keiser und der jungen Cellistin Isabel Gehweiler - Cellist and Composer begibt sich Andreas Vollenweider wieder auf „Klang-Reisen“.

Der Mensch steht im Zentrum ihres Schaffens: Andreas Vollenweider hat sich immer für die Wirkung der Musik auf die Hörenden interessiert.

Karin Wenger gab in ihren Berichterstattungen immer wieder Menschen in Extremsituationen eine Stimme.

Andreas Vollenweider (68) Musiker

Mit seiner Musik gehört der Harfenist und Multiinstrumentalist Andreas Vollenweider zu den erfolgreichsten Schweizer Musikern.

Mit der Schule konnte er nie etwas anfangen.

Er blieb ihr so oft wie nur möglich fern.

In einem inspirierenden Umfeld aufgewachsen, ging er autodidaktisch durchs Leben.

Bei Vollenweider entsteht alles intuitiv.

Die Improvisation steht Im Zentrum.

Am meisten interessiert ihn die Wirkung von Klangwelten auf den Menschen.

Der dreifache Vater ist seit 50 Jahren mit seiner Gattin Beata verheiratet und liebt es über alles, mit den beiden Enkelkindern zusammen zu sein.

Asien war 12 Jahre lang ihre zweite Heimat.

Für Radio SRF berichtete sie unter anderem über Erdbeben, Tsunami, Krieg und Proteste.

Dabei hatte Karin Wenger unzählige Begegnungen mit Menschen in absoluten Extremsituationen.

Diesen Menschen gilt ihr ganzes Interesse.

Durch sie und die Reisen in unterschiedlichen Kulturen wurde sie ganz wesentlich geprägt.

Ihre Wohnung in Bangkok hat sie nun geräumt und ist bereit, neue Wege zu gehen.

Mit ihren vielseitigen Interessen ist die leidenschaftliche Taucherin für vieles offen.

Immerhin war sie zum Beispiel auch schon Snowboardlehrerin.

Die Talk-Sendung «Persönlich» vom 15. Mai kommt live aus dem Kleintheater Luzern.

The Music

It is truly a musical world of its own; melodic, touching, intimate, emotional, reconciliatory, uncompromisingly free, fascinatingly unfamiliar, ranging from feather-light to stirring virtuosity, soothing and powerful all at once.

 

More than ever before, it also invites us to take an inward journey, to pause and reflect in order to gather new strength.

 

This is exactly what this music became world-famous for.

 

 

The New Line Up

Andreas Vollenweider's instrument is able to fill even the largest halls with ease with its powerful sound; ultra-deep basses, hypnotic grooves, crystal clear, melodious, haunting.

 

His four musical companions are dancing in these sound spaces.

 

 

 

Walter Keiser, drummer since the first hour and heartbeat of this music.

 

The spectrum of his playing ranges from subtle, finely woven to spiritedly furious.

 

Even in airy, flying passages, he always keeps the connection to the ground.

 

 

 

Isabel Gehweiler is a young cellist, whose playing is able to touch in a most intense way.

 

She, too, goes beyond the typical tonal and dynamic framework of her instrument, leaving the question again and again: does she really play this music on a cello?

 

 

 

Daniel Kuffer, at home in this music for almost 20 years.

 

The multi-instrumentalist conjures with an almost inexhaustible wealth of sound colors; saxophones, clarinets, flutes, accordion, keyboards...

 

 

 

Sorin Spasinovici, whatever he touches, it becomes music.

 

But his heart's instrument is the viola.

 

The musical diversity of his homeland Romania is evident in his playing: energetic virtuosity and soulful melodies.

The concert was announced for the coming Sunday 5.6.22 on the island Grafenwerth near Bonn, but was moved to Bonn to the venue "BRÜCKENFORUM" because of a court decision from yesterday, due to an appeal of environmentalists.

Unfortunately we were confronted with these circumstances at very short notice and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

But we hope once the lights go out and the music begins, the troubles will be forgotten…

Almost two years ago, MiG – music started re-releasing Andreas Vollenweider’s entire back catalog, with Andreas handling the editing and re-mastering of his life’s work himself.

“Eolian Minstrel” was already something special when it was released back in 1993.

It was Vollenweider’s first vocal album: The “classic” Vollenweider-sound combined with the voices and lyrics of the American singer/songwriters Eliza Gilkyson and Carly Simon.

Andreas Vollenweider himself still feels the addition of the element “singing” as an adventure.

What may have irritated some of his fans at that time seems more up-to-date than ever before, as Enya, Moya Brennan and Loreena McKennit prove.

What makes “Eolian Minstrel” a special work of Vollenweider are also the excellent instrumentalists, who with great virtuosity and diversity made the album grow into a true cornucopia of sound.

Besides the friends of primeval times, Walter Keiser (drums), Pedro Haldemann (percussion), Christoph Stiefel (organ), Max Laesser (guitars), new impulses can be heard from Marc Portmann (guitars), Eberhad Hahn (wind instruments), Ernst Stroer (percussion), Sandro Friedrich (ethnic wind instruments), Thomas Fessler (guitars, pipa), Richard Greene (fiddle), Matthieu Michel (trumpet).

Eliza Gilkyson shines not only as a great singer and co-lyricist on this album, but also with her instrumental skills on guitar and percussion.

For the first time, the long-standing friendship with the legendary American songwriter Carly Simon has also borne fruit musically: the joint song “Private Fires”.

After "Quiet Places" (2020), Andreas Vollenweider has consistently arranged his music on his new album according to its atmosphere and effect: "SlowFlow" is a handful of songs with a relaxed, flowing character, while "Dancer" is full of movement and rhythm.

All 11 songs on "SlowFlow" and "Dancer" were created in the period from late 2010 to 2021 through collaboration with British producer Andy Wright (including Eurythmics, Simply Red, Jeff Beck, Simple Minds and many others).

In the realization of their ideas, the two were supported by Vollenweider's high-caliber circle of friends, who laid the foundation for the songs: Walter Keiser (drums), Andi Pupato (percussion), Daniel Kueffer (bass clarinet), Oliver Keller (guitars) and the young Swiss rapper and beat boxer Steff La Cheffe, real name Stefanie Peter.

The music of "Dancer" also reflects Vollenweider's connection with Africa.

The South African vocal harmony band Africapella and singer Ayanda Nhlangothi embody this connection.

The "London Session Orchestra", consisting of musicians from the Royal Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of James McWilliam, also provided a special sound density.

The renowned British producer and arranger Peter Vettese was responsible for most of the orchestrations.

The recordings took place at Andreas' Lakeside Studios in Switzerland, SABC Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, and finally at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

Andy Wright's longtime sound engineer Gavin Goldberg's work has set new sonic standards for Vollenweider music, and is able to delight even the most demanding audiophiles with a punchy yet transparent, dynamic soundstage.

Swiss harpist Andreas Vollenweider continues his exploration of world fusion on this ambitious, genre-blending release.

In addition to the usual presence of Vollenweider’s electrified harp, on which he manages to combine the instrument’s lush, classical sound with unusual rhythmic effects and uncharacteristic tones, “Kryptos” boasts a range of other instruments, including flutes, synthesizer, human choruses, and a variety of percussion.

Stylistically Vollenweider draws on African influences, Greek folk songs, Celtic airs, contemporary Western classical, and dramatic film music.

Vollenweider also has a soft spot for mythological themes, as on “Hermes’ Wedding” and “Circulus Finalis”, which recounts the travels of a hero in musical terms.

Vollenweider is clearly building on his successful albums of the early 1980s with “Kryptos”, expanding the reach of his music to encompass the globe.

This music has had to wait a long time until it could finally make its way to you.

 

And now it comes at just the right time, when we are all under pressure and have many difficulties to cope with...

 

 

 

 

 

For over 40 years, Andreas has seen it as his calling to use his music to remind his listeners of the positive forces that are always discreetly at work, even in the darkest of times: music as a source of motivation and hope, inspiring us to work courageously and effectively to realize our dreams.

Andreas Vollenweider began working on this project with British producer Andy Wright (Eurhythmics, Simply Red, Jeff Beck, Simple Minds, Sinead O'Connor, among others) already at the end of 2010.

On October 28, 2022, SlowFlow & Dancer will be released worldwide on all digital formats as well as CDs and vinyl.

Jego utwory są uznawane za różne rodzaje muzyki w tym world music, jazz, new age czy nawet muzykę poważną; dwa z jego albumów zajmowały pierwsze miejsce na liście Billboard równocześnie w kategoriach utworów poważnych, jazzowych i muzyki pop.
